Don’t look at the calories, look at the ingredients.
Cutting calories might help you lose weight in the short-term, but it can cause havoc on your metabolism, gut health and long-term health goals if not done effectively. Food quality is just as important, if not more, as quantity.
Many packaged low-calorie, “health” foods contain processed ingredients that can rob us of our health. Many of them cause us to eat more than we should and most contain ingredients that we would never cook with at home, such as artificial colors and sweeteners, natural flavors, bleached flour, MSG, and refined sugar.
We should focus on eating foods that are as close to their natural state as possible (baked sweet potato vs. sweet potato chips). Your calories will naturally reduce by avoiding heavily processed foods and your gut health will thank you as well.
